As per a recent study, those who wish to lose weight and boost their heart health can benefit from cutting back on carbohydrates rather than dietary fats. Those who have a low carbohydrate diet also showed improvement in cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Quite risky?
Traditionally, the low-carb diet was considered to be quite risky however, the recent study has shown that it may remarkably increase the good fats. However, it is not clear how beneficial this type of diet would be for the long run. Sonya Angelone from Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says “I do think that most people eat too many carbohydrates, so eating fewer carbohydrates, and choosing high-quality ones is a sound idea.”
For one, people on the low-carbohydrate diet didn’t stick to it all that well. The regimen called for no more than 40 grams of carbohydrates a day — the equivalent of about two slices of bread. But, by the end of the year, people in the low-carbohydrate group were averaging 127 grams of carbohydrates a day, noted Sonya Angelone, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
