Does the chia seed have what it takes to be called a superfood?

“Chia” is a Mayan word for strength and has been called “Indian running food.” Tarahumara Indians of Mexico were known for running hundreds of miles at a time and regularly consume chia. It retains electrolytes, stabilize blood sugar and support a sustaining surge of energy throughout the day – a great benefit for athletes.
It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, soluble and insoluble fiber, making it healthier than coffee and a great addition to some foods. When added to water, it forms a gel which helps prolong hydration. It’s also used as an alternative to eggs and even thicken up soups and stews.
Chia seeds work well together with a balanced diet and not as solely a replacement for or supplement to a poor diet.
