George Bernard Shaw once said that “There is no sincerer love than the love of food.” If you agree with the Irish playwright’s philosophy, chances are you’ve always believed dieting isn’t for you.
A diet that helps you drop the pounds without tight restrictions and withdrawal cravings sounds too good to be true, but it does exist. Meet the Food Lovers Diet.
What is the Food Lovers Diet?
Health and wellness firm Provida Life Sciences and certified nutritionist Robert Ferguson combined their expertise to develop the Food Lovers Diet, a weight loss solution created with food lovers in mind. Followers learn how to pair the right foods, and eat them every few hours to stave off hunger pangs .
You’re likely to feel a little shock to your system in the first three weeks of the diet, which is a period its creators call the Metabolism Makeover. The foods eaten and workouts performed over these first 21 days jumpstart your metabolism and encourage your body to burn fat.
The Metabolism Makeover period rules out processed conveniences and alcohol and encourages you to focus on natural whole foods instead. It also introduces you to a range of useful weight loss strategies including keeping a food, water, and exercise diary, choosing healthy fats, eating more fiber, and getting a full night’s sleep.
After the Metabolism Makeover comes a longer term plan, known as Food Lovers for Life. This is the time you can enjoy some chocolate cake and other treats you’ve been craving, although you’ll only eat them in small portions and coupled with the right foods. The Food Lovers Diet looks to strict portion control and not counting calories (as many other diets suggest).
Note that while the cake is permissible during this phase, it’s not exactly encouraged. The diet believes refined sugars, salty foods, alcohol, soda, and most processed foods slow down metabolism , so it encourages followers to choose other alternatives.
