A recent study shows that weight loss may be as good for your brain as it is for your body. A research published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism says that a weight loss surgery can be useful in reversing fat’s negative effects on the brain.

It is known that excessive weight harms various organs in the body and these studies prove that it can now harm the brain too.

People having excess weight are at 35% more risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease. Scientists at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil studied seventeen obese women and it was found that their brain function improved after bariatric surgery.

But don’t worry if you’re not scheduled for weight-loss surgery anytime soon: Other research has shown a link between less drastic weight-loss methods and a re-upping in cognitive function.
